Curriculum Implementation
Music Education Consultants, Inc., is positioned to lead any district in the development and implementation of an articulated, comprehensive, school-side or district-wide Elementary through Secondary Music Program that will focus on the development of musicianship skills that will lead students to perform, create, and listen to music of the authentic Mariachi tradition with deep understanding.
Our consultants which include Marcia Neel, president of Music Education Consultants, Inc., and Maestro Jose Hernandez, Grammy-nominated mariachi performing artist, are available to work with appropriate personnel to present and review the many available options available to address, among other program considerations, the following goals.
1. To provide a standards-based Elementary and/or Secondary Music Program that will be implemented during the school day to develop students’ musicianship skills through the playing of traditional Mariachi music
2. To develop a three-year implementation plan to include appropriate grades that will eventually develop as an independent strand similar to band, choir or orchestra within the District’s current Music Education Program
3. To recommend courses, an appropriate curriculum sequence, and possible schedules for all schools
4. To provide a Budget Overview including
• Instruments and Equipment
• Method Books and Musical Material
• Supplies
• Uniforms
5. To provide an ongoing Professional Development Plan for District mariachi educators to develop their abilities in the following areas.
• Playing skills on mariachi instruments
• Playing skills on the band or orchestra instruments of need
• Ensemble skills leading to authentic mariachi performance style
• Instructional strategies to implement a standards-based, comprehensive mariachi education program based upon a proven
national model
• A library of age-appropriate educational materials needed to implement a standards-based, comprehensive mariachi education
program
The District Mariachi Education Program will offer its students, many of them from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, a high-quality musical experience of a multigenerational tradition rooted in a sound, sequential, standards-based curriculum. Additionally, all students will develop sensitivity, understanding, and respect for peoples from a broad spectrum of ethnic and cultural backgrounds.

Testimonials
Marcia and Jose,
You have ruined me for other trainings forever! I can't imagine another training being more fun than I had the last two days with the both of you other than your next one in Vegas. What a productive, collaborative, and creative time we had! Thank you for all of your hard work and for arranging everything for us. You are both such a blessing to me, and I am absolutely thrilled to be working with you!

Thanks to you and Jose for coming to work with us. I don't think any school district for which I have worked has ever sponsored such an excellent in-service for music teachers in all the years I've been teaching (since 1989). We really appreciate the resources you have provided as there are so few to draw from in this particular genre.

My principal told me that here are Title 3 funds if we want instruments so I'm starting on a list right away. I'm so blessed how all of this is turning out. Thank you again! For everything!
