Mary Beth Scow
"I've watched my children grow and thrive in our incredible district. As a trustee, I am able to work for excellence in education not only for my own children, but for all the children in the Clark County School District (CCSD). Through strong leadership and clear vision, our students will be prepared for the world of higher education and successful careers." Mrs. Scow was elected to the board in 1996 and has served two terms as president. She graduated cum laude from Brigham Young University with a bachelor's degree in community health education and while in high school, was an exchange student to the Netherlands. She has served on several CCSD committees and zoning task forces, is a former president of the Sunset Area Council of PTA and was a Boy Scout den leader for eight years. Mary Beth and her husband, Steve, have nine children -- all of whom attended or are attending CCSD schools -- and five grandchildren. The Scow family is very involved in sports, scouts, music, and church activities. A Denver native, Mrs. Scow has lived in Southern Nevada for 24 years.
Sherri Brewer
Sherri Brewer has been in the educational field for thirty-nine years. Prior to her retirement in 2010, she was principal of the award-winning Gilbert Magnet School for Communication and the Creative Arts in Clark County, Nevada. In May of 2010, under the leadership of Mrs. Brewer, Gilbert Magnet School received the prestigious Dr. Ronald Simpson Award from the Magnet Schools of America Association. Out of 4,000 magnet schools nationwide, this recognition identified Gilbert Magnet School as the number one magnet school in America. During Mrs. Brewer's tenure, Gilbert received over $200,000 in grant funding; student musical and dance groups were continually asked to share their talents throughout the community; and the Shakespeare Club was invited and accepted an invitation to perform at the Tony Award Winning Utah Shakespeare Festival.
Mrs. Brewer received a B.A. from the University of Illinois. She went on to earn a Master of Education degree from Pennsylvania State University and an Administrative Endorsement from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. In addition to her professional commitment to enhance the learning and lives of children through the arts, Mrs. Brewer has also performed with several theatre companies and musical groups.
