|
Anthony Mazzocchi is a seasoned leader in nonprofit and educational sectors, with expertise in music education, program development, and access and equity in the arts. His work spans diverse roles, from educator and consultant to executive leadership in major music institutions.
As the Director of the John J. Cali School of Music at Montclair State University since 2020, Anthony has spearheaded transformative initiatives in higher music education. His notable accomplishments include establishing the Cali Immersive Residency Program, which brings prominent artists to campus, and creating the Cali Pathways Project, the nation’s first university-based diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiative for pathways into music education and careers. Through his fundraising efforts, Anthony raised millions in private support to launch the Cali Pathways Project, followed by a successful “Name-A-Seat” campaign to secure additional funding for DEI efforts. He has also innovated partnerships with cultural powerhouses like Merkin Concert Hall and the Metropolitan Museum of Art and led the development of a new Bachelor of Arts in Recording and Production Arts. Under his leadership, Cali School’s freshman enrollment doubled, and its reputation as an inclusive, forward-thinking music school has grown significantly. Anthony’s commitment to music education and nonprofit growth extends to his role as Co-Executive Director of Kinhaven Music School in Vermont. Since 2010, he has expanded Kinhaven’s impact and financial sustainability by growing the Annual Fund fivefold and building the school’s endowment from $100,000 to over $2 million. He also led the completion of two capital campaigns, totaling $3.5 million, to enhance campus facilities and launch new programs. In 2025, Kinhaven will debut the nation’s first semester boarding school for young musicians, the culmination of Anthony’s vision to provide intensive, residential music education. His strategic leadership has diversified Kinhaven’s program offerings, introducing tuition-free sessions like the Young Artist Seminar and the Windhaven festival, while tripling summer applications from 2010 to 2018. A trombonist with extensive performance experience, Anthony has played with renowned ensembles including the Los Angeles Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony, and San Diego Symphony, as well as in numerous Broadway productions and recording sessions. He is also a respected sought-after speaker on music’s role in education, delivering a TEDx talk on collaboration through trombone choir performance. |
